Police, fire, rescue

Theft - A bank deposit of $3,666.77 in cash was missing at the Halloween USA store, 200 Greenbriar Drive, a Normal police report said. The deposit was for sales made Oct. 29.

Theft - A laptop computer valued at $1,500 was missing Oct. 31 from a house in University Court after a large social gathering, a Normal police report said. The victim said the laptop was taken between midnight and 1 a.m.

Criminal damage - Someone broke off a passenger side mirror from a car in the 900 block of Karin Drive on Oct. 31 between 7:45 p.m. and 10:45 p.m., a Normal police report said. The report did not list a value for the mirror.

Criminal damage - Someone shot a glass door of the Lafayette Club, 1602 S. Main St., with a BB gun between Oct. 30 and Oct. 31, a Bloomington police report said. The report listed no value for the damage.

Jan. 16 hearing set in child murder case

BLOOMINGTON - A Jan. 16 hearing is scheduled for a Decatur man accused of first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend's 21-month-old son.

Frank Byers III, 24, was in court Friday for a status hearing on the charges related to the death of Aaron O'Brien Ishmael. The child died Oct. 2, 2007 of head injuries. Byers told police the child was accidentally injured in a fall while Byers was watching the boy, according to prosecutors.

Defense lawyer Steve Skelton said he has received a large amount of material from prosecutors and expects to receive more as he prepares the case for a jury trial.

Byers remains free on $75,000 bond.

Retail theft - A Normal woman is charged with retail theft greater than $150. Elizabeth Legg, 22, of the 1200 block of Hillcrest Avenue, remains in custody in lieu of posting $2,000.

Court documents said a loss prevention employee at Sears department store, 1631 E. Empire St., claimed Legg was seen taking three digital cameras from the electronics section and leaving without paying. The cameras are valued at $447. Bloomington police arrested Legg. Legg was on intensive probation in connection with an aggravated robbery case that was pending sentencing. Legg was also awaiting sentencing for a separate case of possession of a controlled substance.

Burglary - A 19-year-old Bloomington man is charged with burglary. Kenneth Mcnairy of the 2400 block of Rainbow Avenue remains in custody in lieu of posting $500.

Mcnairy was stopped by Normal police in a vehicle that had been reported stolen by Rebbec Pontiac-Buick Inc., 302-305 Landmark Drive, Normal, court documents said. After Mcnairy and his passengers were questioned and gave conflicting reports, Mcnairy admitted to stealing the vehicle, the documents said.The vehicle is valued at $13,000.

Mcnairy told police that a friend had stolen the keys to the vehicle and given them to him. Mcnairy said he was passing the lot when he was coming home from a party and was cold and remembered he had the keys in his pocket. He entered the vehicle and drove off with it. He kept the vehicle for almost two weeks and had a friend put license plates on it, the documents said.

Theft - Charges of theft over $10,000 are pending against a Bloomington man.

Jason Codding, 36, is accused of taking more than $10,000 from a Bloomington couple. He was jailed in lieu of posting $3,000. Codding's home address was not listed in court records.

Forgery - A 46-year-old Bloomington man faces forgery charges.

Randall Burton, of the 200 block of North Allin Street, is accused of three counts of forgery. He was held in lieu of posting $1,000.

Stolen vehicle - A Bloomington man was sentenced to 30 months of probation for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Anthony Mendenall, 20, of the 500 block of South Lee Street, was ordered to pay $2,300 restitution to the victim and complete recommended substance and alcohol treatment.

Cocaine - A Bloomington man was jailed in lieu of $10,000 on charges of selling cocaine near a church.

Terrance Nelson, 19, of the 400 block of East Market Street, is accused of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance near a church on Oct. 22 and 29.

Burglary - A 21-year-old Bloomington man is accused of burglary and criminal damage to property.

William J. Bruno of the 500 block of North Oak Street was jailed in lieu of posting $500 on charges that he entered a building in the 100 block of East Market Street and caused more than $300 damage to an apartment.

Burglary - A woman from Normal faces residential burglary charges.

Sara Stout, 21, of the 100 block of North Orr Drive, is accused of entering a home between Oct. 1 and Oct. 21. She was jailed in lieu of $500.

Credit card - A Bloomington man was jailed in lieu of posting $500 on a charge of credit card fraud.

Zachary Washburn, 22, of the 400 block of East Monroe Street, is accused of taking a person's credit card.

Theft - A Bloomington man accused of taking a computer owned by Macy's faces charges of theft over $300.

Aaron Cooper, 22, of Rainbow Circle, also is charged with retail theft, subsequent offense, for taking clothing from the store. He was jailed in lieu of posting $200.

Marijuana - An Iowa man was placed on 24 months of conditional discharge for unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

Anthony Jordan, 17, also was accessed a $400 street value fine.
