100 years ago
Dec. 30, 1907: Reverend Billy Sunday preached on three separate occasions at his Bloomington revival. Attendance has ranged from 1500 at the evening service December 27, to 4500 Sunday morning. The revival tabernacle is on South Main Street.
75 years ago
Dec. 30, 1932: It turns out Jack Rhodus had help when he robbed the Moose Club the other night. Police are holding George Hall and Ferdinand Sylvester as accomplices. Hall was in the club, and allegedly tipped Rhodus when would be the best time to rob it.
50 years ago
Dec. 30, 1957: Federal agents in Springfield broke up and burned nine confiscated pinball machines, including three from Boogies, 102 West Stewart, Bloomington. Pinball machines are legal under one law, but illegal under another. So, compliance can lead to arrest.
25 years ago
Dec. 30, 1982: Leonard Appell of Normal turns 100 years old today. A Bloomington native, he worked at the Hershey Candy Company before it became Beich's. His daughter and son-in-law, Laverne and Bob Feek, held an open house for him.
