NORMAL - MargeAnn Ahnquist has a special affinity for crafts.
And, as a retired kindergarten teacher, she has plenty of time to pursue them.
She delights, for instance, in decorating her door with a different wreath for every season and making sure there are fresh flowers on her kitchen table.
Ahnquist was right at home when visiting a hobby show last week at the Normal Public Library, and she said she took home some good ideas. That pleased Mary Lou Lawson, adult outreach coordinator for the library.
"That's the point," Lawson said, calling the show a success. It was the first such show for the library.
Ahnquist agreed, adding, "If you don't have a hobby, it's time you get one."
The Bloomington resident especially liked a display by Casey's Garden Shop and Florist.
"I like flower arranging and took some classes in it," she said.
Besides the Casey's display, Ahnquist visited several more of the dozen displays Friday in the community room of the library, including a model train display.
It brought back memories of her late husband, Vince Ahnquist.
"He was always interested in trains at Christmas," she said.
Ahnquist also stopped at a woodworking and quilt table, where she admired quilts made by Rita Boyd of Bloomington.
"Very impressive," Ahnquist said.
Carol Westall, of Normal, also admired the quilts.
Westall also stopped at a table devoted to baseball card collecting.
"It's not an interest of mine, but I have a nephew who is interested," she said.
