PONTIAC - An Ottawa man accepted a plea deal Thursday afternoon that will send him to prison for six years on robbery and other charges.
Chance Weed, 20, pleaded guilty to five counts in connection with a Jan. 13 robbery at the Pontiac Super 8 Motel, 601 S. Deerfield Road, and a police chase the next day. Weed was charged with robbery, aggravated fleeing and misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of drugs, criminal trespass to a vehicle and driving with a revoked license.
Weed was arrested on Jan. 14 after driving away from a Dwight gas station and not paying for $30 in gas, police said.
Police spotted the car but Weed fled, exceeding 100 mph on Interstate 55 with police in pursuit, police said. The incident ended when Weed's car crashed into a Dwight police car.
Weed later admitted to using heroin that day and robbing the motel the day before, police said.
The hotel clerk said Weed had a hand in his pocket during the robbery and acted as if he had a weapon. He robbed the motel of about $200, police said.
Weed will have to pay $30,896 in restitution.
He also asked Livingston County Circuit Judge Harold Frobish if he could be considered for drug treatment while in prison. Frobish said he would recommend it.
