LeROY - There's a four-way race for mayor in LeRoy with the decision by Gary Koerner to not seek a second term. | Election HQ: Stories, candidate bios

Seeking the job are Brad Budyach, Steve Dean, Elmer Garee and Marshall Wilson. The election is April 7.

Budyach, 41, is a Special Olympics coach with an associate's degree in computer operations. He wants to give back to the community, and says being part of a homeowners' association has given him experience in budgeting and enforcing rules and regulations.

He said youth and public safety are issues, and wants "a greater city with better economy and quality of life."

Dean, 60, has a background in salary, administration and human resource development and was a restaurant and catering business owner for more than 20 years. He conducted and developed statewide training programs and served on various community boards and committees.

He is a city council member and served two terms before being appointed to the seat he now holds. He is the parks/playgrounds coordinator and fundraiser.

He said issues include better communication between city government and local residents and determining a future for the downtown area.

Garee, a U.S. Army veteran, joined Rollins Inc in 1965 and became regional manager. He worked 25 years as a district and regional manager in the Midwest with 18 offices and around 250 employees. He has served on state boards in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Missouri.

He was an EMT and ambulance driver for LeRoy Ambulance Service, is a past commander of Ruel Neal Post 79 American Legion and is president of the American Legion Riders Post 79.

"My campaign slogan is change - if you, like me, are not satisfied with the past and seeks change, I am the candidate to elect," he said.

Wilson, a U.S. Air Force veteran, formerly worked for Permabuilt, as an Illinois high school official and part-time police officer in LeRoy, and recently retired from the Internal Revenue Service.

Wilson says the issues are the budget; infrastructure; personnel and training; and working with residents.
