BLOOMINGTON - A 20-year-old McLean man accused with his brother and father of sexually assaulting a minor girl left the alleged victim shaken and shocked in her bed, according to remarks by prosecutors Wednesday in opening statements at his trial.

Jonathan Ramey is on trial on charges of criminal sexual assault related to three incidents that started in 2005 and ended several months later.

Ramey's 18-year-old brother, Michael, is due in court for a status hearing today on two counts of criminal sexual assault of the same victim.

Lawrence Ramey, the 47-year-old father of the defendants, is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a child under 13 years old.

The alleged victim, who is younger than 18 years old, spent about 90 minutes on the witness stand as the state's only witness. She is acquainted with the three men accused of assaulting her.

The victim told the jury that Jonathan Ramey came into her bedroom on three separate occasions and molested her. She said she did not tell anyone about the visits until November 2007 because she thought the alleged abuse would stop.

"I blame myself for not telling but not for what happened. I realize I should have (told) and not just expected it to stop," she said.

Court rulings before the trial prohibit prosecutors from discussing charges against the other men.

In an emotional opening statement, prosecutor Suzanne Geller said Jonathan Ramey pinned the victim down and forcefully assaulted her.

"What she has now is that painful, tortured memory of horrific abuse," said Geller.

Defense lawyer Stephanie Wong countered to the jury that the case against Jonathan Ramey was filed after a less-than-thorough investigation.

"This case is about a rush to judgment by an overzealous prosecution," said Wong.

The defense asked the victim about communications she initiated with Jonathan Ramey after the alleged assaults. Wong pointed out to the jury that the police investigation did not include a search of computer records of conversations between Jonathan Ramey and the victim.

Wong contends it is unusual for an alleged victim to voluntarily communicate with an alleged attacker.

The trial continues today with prosecution witnesses.
