BLOOMINGTON - A 38-year-old Bloomington man who is on parole for an attempted-murder sentence was charged Saturday in the stabbing of an acquaintance at a west-side apartment.

James Folks

James Folks and the 49-year-old victim reportedly started fighting after Folks loudly knocked on the door of an apartment at 302 Reeveston Drive around 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Two women in the apartment were able to separate the men, but not before the 49-year-old was stabbed, according to the McLean County state's attorney's office.

The victim, who resides in the apartment, was taken to a Normal hospital but was no longer being treated there. Police said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Folks was arrested after a police search of the apartment complex later Thursday. Police found the broken-off handle of the knife allegedly used in the stabbing, prosecutors said.

Folks was released on parole in August after serving half of a 30-year sentence on an attempted murder charge out of Macon County, according to the state Department of Corrections.

Folks remained in custody Saturday at the McLean County jail in lieu of posting $50,000.
