LeROY - A selection of emotionally dark poems written by murder suspect Jason Marksteiner focus on lost love and death. Samantha Marksteiner confirmed Friday that her husband wrote poetry and submitted it for posting on the poetry.com Web site.

"He wrote thousands of poems," she said, characterizing the writing as dark and depressing.

The 30 posted poems bearing his name include "Deceitful World," "My Mind's Graveyard" and "When Will It end."

The Web site's owners declined to answer questions about the undated poems, citing a confidentiality policy for authors.

The 21-year-old LeRoy man charged with killing his wife's pregnant sister is on suicide watch at the McLean County jail and is receiving counseling, Sheriff Mike Emery said Friday. The increased security is routine in such cases, said Emery.

Jason Marksteiner must post $100,000 to be released. His next court date is Nov. 14.

He graduated from LeRoy High School in 2005. Principal Steve Reschke said he does not remember Marksteiner being in any school activities, but because he was principal, he didn't see students daily like teachers.

He worked at the Wal-Mart Supercenter, 300 Greenbriar Drive, Normal, as an unloader, a manager at the store said Friday. He had not been working there for very long, the manager said, declining to release other information.

Following is the text of one of his poems, titled "She":

"There's a girl crying in her room

She thinks the ghosts are coming soon

She thinks the raindrops falling outside

Is a reason to run, a reason to hide

But the trickling sound outside

It matters none to you and I

See this girl is special as you can tell

She's from heaven but acts like hell

Outside her room the storm draws nearer

She screams to her mommy

But no one can hear her

She then looks outside

And sees a faint little light

It must have been horrible out that night

The girl died that night with just one care

She died alone and she was scared."

Ryan Denham and Sharon K. Wolfe contributed to this report.
