NORMAL - A Normal man remains in serious condition at BroMenn Regional Medical Center following an accident early Sunday morning on Interstate 55, half a mile south of milepost 168.
A passenger from Pontiac was also injured in the accident, but her condition and the extent of her injuries was not known.
Aaron Hicks, 26, was traveling southbound in an SUV shortly after 7 a.m. when he left the road and struck a sign, state police said. Hicks was able to return the vehicle to the right shoulder but lost control and his vehicle rolled several times, coming to rest upright in a ditch.
Illinois State police District 6 in Pontiac, Bloomington and Normal fire departments, and Towanda fire department responded to the scene.
Hicks was thrown from the vehicle. Normal Fire Capt. John Grussing said it took rescue personnel 30 minutes to extricate Hicks' passenger, Amanda Martin, 18, of Pontiac, from the vehicle.
A nursing supervisor said Sunday night that Martin was not in the hospital directory.
Hicks was cited for driving under the influence.
