BLOOMINGTON - The apparent intended victim of a shooting Thursday night on the near west side told police he started running when he saw three men get out of a car with guns, police said Friday.

No one was injured in the shooting, which led to street blockages ahead of a Doobie Brothers concert at the nearby U.S. Cellular Coliseum. There have been no arrests.

The intended victim told police he saw two cars outside a home in the 500 block of West Grove Street before the shooting around 6:40 p.m., said police spokesman Duane Moss. The victim resides in a different residence in that area, Moss said.

The cars left once but returned, then drove east to Lee Street where the victim told police three black males exited the dark purple car, all reportedly with guns, Moss said.

The victim started running west on Grove and heard gunshots. When the shots stopped, the victim reportedly saw the silver car turn north on Lee Street and the dark purple car turn south on Lee Street, Moss said.

Police said Thursday that about six shots were fired. At least two bullets lodged in the walls of a house at 511 W. Grove St., which was unoccupied, police said. Shell casings were also found just west of the Grove/Lee intersection.

One witness described the dark purple car as a four-door Dodge, older model (2000 or so), Moss said.

The apparent intended victim told police he knew one of the men he saw in the cars, but only by a nickname, Moss said.
