100 years ago
March 21, 1908: ISNU has added a "Bird Study Course" under the direction of Miss Alice Patterson. Classes will get out on campus about 6 a.m. to identify the various types of birds. In a trial run last term, the course was well enough received to be part of the general offering.
75 years ago
March 21, 1933: Corn Belt Bank and McLean County Bank reopened, emerging from FDR's bank holiday of sev-eral days. As with Peoples Bank and the First National Bank in Normal a few days ago, there were more deposits made than withdrawals.
50 years ago
March 21, 1958: There was a suspicious fire the other night at the General Telephone warehouse on West Division Street. Now, a 12-year-old boy has confessed to starting it. He was released to his parents pending a hearing.
25 years ago
March 21, 1983: It was the first day of spring, following a mild winter. But nature gave us a 4-inch snowfall as a reality check. The snow measured deeper than all the combined winter snows of 1982-83.
