BLOOMINGTON - A recommendation for a new highway engineer is on its way to the McLean County Board.
On Tuesday, the board's transportation committee voted to recommend Assistant County Highway Engineer Eric Schmitt for the job of maintaining the county's roads.
If the board approves the recommendation, Schmitt would success County Highway Engineer Jack Mitchell, who is retiring in about a month.
Schmitt said Tuesday he was happy with the transportation committee's endorsement.
Schmitt, 33, has worked for the McLean County Highway Department for about eight years. He received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Bradley University in Peoria.
The board could vote on Schmitt's appointment at its June 17 meeting.
