CNN program host headlines local event

BLOOMINGTON - Betty Nguyen, co-host of CNN's Saturday and Sunday Morning shows, will give the keynote address at the YWCA Women of Distinction awards banquet, set for May 17 at Illinois State University.

Nguyen, born in Vietnam, has covered numerous news events and is co-founder of Help the Hungry, an organization provides humanitarian aid to poverty stricken families. She is a member of the Philanthropy in Texas Hall of Fame.

The awards banquet, held since 1990, recognizes exceptional women from McLean County. Community members nominate women who have demonstrated qualities of leadership and excellence in their personal and professional lives, and a commitment to improving McLean County through work-related and volunteer activities.

Nomination deadline is 5 p.m. April 5.
