EUREKA - Two 18-year-old Georgia men who were captured Friday after a manhunt in Roanoke were each charged Monday with three felony weapons charges and one of obstructing justice.

Matthew R. Wagner and David T. Horner, both of Douglasville, Ga., were caught near a bridge at Main and Front streets in Roanoke. Nearly 50 police officers from several agencies had spent Thursday night and Friday morning searching through area cornfields and homes.

Police were focusing on a 500-acre area east of Roanoke when a resident spotted the fugitives in the village.

They were charged with aggravated possession of three stolen firearms, a Class 1 felony, two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon for having a loaded pistol, and obstructing justice, all Class 4 felonies.

Their bail was set at $30,000 Friday before the formal charges were filed. They were arraigned Monday afternoon in Woodford County Circuit Court and preliminary hearings were set for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 8.

Both asked for a public defender.

Horner told Judge John B. Huschen that he had to be in court in Georgia on Aug. 5. Huschen told him to discuss that with his attorney.

Police were working with authorities in Georgia to confirm that the weapons were stolen there. Other charges in Georgia could not be determined.

The pursuit began when they drove off without paying for gas in Woodhull, in Henry County. Their vehicle was found abandoned near El Paso about 4 p.m. Thursday, and police found weapons, ammunition and an empty handgun case.

An unidentified person called police to say he had given two men a ride to the Roanoke area.

The men told police they were fleeing from Georgia to Montana.
