MANSFIELD - The Village of Mansfield will consider adding more recycle bins to its collection site.

Trustee Don "Duffy" Deffenbaugh hopes another bin would accommodate the recyclable waste, which has grown.

"I'm not trying to pinpoint anyone but with (some businesses' supply), it fills up that tote pretty fast," Deffenbaugh said.

Deffenbaugh also said he had concerns about non-residents who are dropping off recyclable items in Mansfield. Deffenbaugh isn't sure there is a way to control that issue.

Mansfield residents are allowed to drop off recyclable items, such as paper and plastic, at the site every other week.

Animal control

Village board members, who met last week, discussed looking into an animal shelter that's just getting started in White Heath.

The Monticello Animal Hospital no longer can accept stray animals from Mansfield, so the village has talked with the Champaign County Humane Society and Champaign County Animal Control.

Mayor Steve Gaines said he felt working with the humane society would be the village's best bet, as the group would take animals as it had space.

Gaines said the humane society would charge the village $10 a day to board a dog without tags for a total of 30 days.

Deffenbaugh said he thought the village should consider finding out more information about the new Piatt County Animal Shelter before making its decision.
