NORMAL - Illinois State University student David Jaeger's dorm room got a celebrity makeover today as part of a 2006 homecoming contest.
Jaeger beat out nearly 20 other ISU students for the chance to have Claire Berger - an ISU alumna and former host of HGTV's "Fantasy Open House" - spruce up his residence hall digs.
Berger graduated from Illinois State in 1977.
Jaeger joined Berger this evening at the Bowling and Billiards Center as she announced him as winner of the Homecoming 2006 Dream Dorm Do-Over contest.
The cable network host visited Jaeger's living space earlier in the day and revamped the area with the help of other ISU alumni. He was not going to see his room until sometime tonight, after the event at the Bowling and Billiards Center.
Standing before giant posters that showed before-and-after photos of the room on the 16th floor of Manchester Hall, Jaeger and Berger talked about the makeover.
Earning the prize also meant landing $500 worth of decorating items.
Contestants vying for the room makeover submitted a contest application, video footage or photos of their rooms and essays explaining why their rooms needed the makeover treatment.
Berger presents the Dream Dorm Do-Over through The College Agency Inc. at college campuses nationwide. She now heads Funny Works, an event-production company focusing on campus programs.
ISU Alumni Association, Student Alumni Council, Student Foundation, and Association of the Residence Halls sponsored the contest.
