100 years ago
Nov. 30, 1908: The Chicago and Alton Railroad is surveying sites for a possible soft water reservoir. The 320 acre reservoir (about half the size of present-day Lake Bloomington) would impound water to be pumped to the Seminary Street tank.
75 years ago
Nov. 30, 1933: A Pontiac jury convicted Earle Bentley Asher of manslaughter in the death of socially prominent Miss Aldine Younger. The verdict came on the fourth ballot. Bentley, the son of a former Pontiac mayor, allegedly ran over the victim with his car.
50 years ago
Nov. 30, 1958: Elmo "Doc" Poshard is supposed to be sworn in as McLean County Sheriff tomorrow, but he'll spend the day in the hospital, where he's recovering from a stroke. He has a special bedside phone that lets him call out, but no one can call in.
25 years ago
Nov. 30, 1983: President Reagan, a graduate of Eureka College, will return at some future date to kick off the Time Magazine lecture series. Last time he was on campus was about 20 months ago, when he spoke to members of his graduating class at their 50th reunion.
