NORMAL - Police said Wednesday that they believe the suspect who robbed a U.S. Bank branch on Tuesday afternoon is the same man who robbed a Bloomington bank Dec. 3. No arrests have been made in either case.

A man with a gun robbed the U.S. Bank in the 1400 block of South Main Street shortly after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Normal police said. He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Based on the suspect's description - white male, between 40 and 50 years old, around 5 feet 10 inches tall - hooded sweat shirt, mask and the type of gun used, police believe it's the same man who robbed National City Bank, 1332 E. Empire St., on Dec. 3, said Normal Assistant Police Chief Kirk Ijams on Wednesday.

"He (the suspect) didn't change his getup much," Ijams said.

Normal police also released images of the suspect taken from security cameras during Tuesday's robbery.

No one was injured in either robberies, both of which took place just before the lobbies of each bank were to close for the day at 5 p.m. The robber got away with an undisclosed amount of cash in each case.

There were three bank robberies in Bloomington in each 2006 and 2007, with three so far in 2008, police spokesman Duane Moss said Wednesday. In Normal, there was one in 2006 and three in 2007, with two so far in 2008, according to Normal police. The U.S. Bank location was also robbed in May and in September 2007.

Anyone with information about the Bloomington case is asked to call Detective Steve Fanelli at (309) 434-2380. Anyone with information on the Normal case is asked to call Detective Nicole Bruno at (309) 454-9702 or Crime Stoppers at (309) 828-1111.
