At a Monday afternoon news conference, Bloomington Police Chief Randall McKinley declined to release the name, age or condition of a man reportedly shot in the torso about 11 p.m. Sunday outside a home at 312 Greenwood Avenue.

The chief said the joint investigation by his department and McLean County sheriff's police could be jeopardized if authorities released many details about the gunfire incidents.

Police said previously that he was taken to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center.

McKinley said police believe all the incidents were committed by two factions of people shooting at each other. He declined to comment on a possible motive.

No arrests were made as of Monday.

About 6:10 p.m. Sunday, police were called to a gas station near the intersection of Morris Avenue and Springfield Road. Witnesses told police shots were fired from a white pickup truck toward a black sport utility vehicle.

All was quiet for about four hours, until the Greenwood Avenue shooting was reported about 11 p.m. The victim reportedly was shot in the torso and transported by private vehicle to the hospital, McKinley said.

Less than 10 minutes later, police were called to a home at 1622 Indiana Avenue. The residence was hit, but no one was injured, police said.

Two to three shots were fired at the building, said police Lt. Stan Harris on Sunday night.

"One shot came inside and hit the wall going down to the basement," said Adalberto Cornejo, who identified himself as the owner of 1622 Indiana Ave. "One shot hit the storm door and another hit the siding outside."

Cornejo said a man kicked in the front door while he and his wife, Leticia, slept, then fired shots before apparently fleeing in a car. Police declined to comment on or confirm Cornejo's account.

The house also was shot at on Feb. 8, according to police reports previously quoted in The Pantagraph.

About half an hour after the Indiana Avenue incident, at 11:45 p.m., police got another call of five or six shots fired outside a home at 816 W. MacArthur Ave., said Bloomington police Sgt. Jeff Klepec on Sunday night.

At least one shot hit some siding there, and another shot hit a window. Several .22-caliber shell casings and a bullet hole in that building also were documented. One witness told police a vehicle was heard speeding away.

Cornejo said his brother, Steven Cornejo, lives at the MacArthur Avenue address, but police declined to confirm the statement.

The police encouraged anyone with information to call the Bloomington Police Department.

The investigation is jointly being supervised by Bloomington police Detective Matt Dick and sheriff's Detective Tim Tyler. Greenwood Avenue is a city street, but the residence is in county jurisdiction.
