UPDATED 1 p.m. NORMAL - Police are spending New Year's Day trying to find a man with a gun who robbed a bank and a currency business 1 1/2 hours apart on New Year's Eve.
There were three previous Twin City bank robberies in December, and police believe the same man is responsible for all five heists.
US Bank, 1401 S. Main St., was robbed at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, said Normal Assistant Police Chief Rick Bleichner in a statement. The same bank was robbed Dec. 9.
At 5:16 p.m., the Cash Store, 1700 Parkway Plaza Drive, was robbed.
In both cases he fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect was described as a white male, about 40 to 50 years old, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, with a medium build. He wore dark glasses, a face mask and a dark colored zip-up hooded, jacket, and displayed a black handgun, police said.
In Bloomington, National City Bank, 1332 E. Empire St., was robbed Dec. 3 and the Freestar Bank near Towanda Avenue and Empire Street was robbed Dec. 16.
