SPRINGFIELD - The state fire marshal will lose nearly $4,000 in pay, but he will not lose his job in connection with a May drunken driving arrest in which he was driving a state-owned vehicle.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich's office announced Thursday that David B. Foreman would be docked two weeks of his $102,000 annual salary as punishment for his May 15 run-in with Springfield police.

That amounts to $3,923 in lost wages.

The action by Blagojevich came two days after Foreman, 60, pleaded guilty to drunken driving and was sentenced in Sangamon County court to one year of court supervision.

Police reports indicate Foreman refused to take a breath test after being pulled over on Springfield's west side at about 4 a.m.

He was taken to jail and was bailed out within an hour by a colleague.

Patti Thompson, a spokeswoman for the fire marshal's office, said Foreman had been using his own vehicle for state business since the arrest. He lost his ability to drive Sunday as part of a state-mandated six-month license suspension.

Thompson said Foreman will take taxis and hitch rides with co-workers in order to conduct his business while in Springfield.

Foreman has served as fire marshal since February 2006.
