BLOOMINGTON - Moving expenses for Bloomington's new city manager will be among the items that go before the City Council at its meeting Monday.
The council meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Bloomington City Hall will mark the last meeting for current City Manager Tom Hamilton.
His last day at the city will be Jan. 23, ending his 15-year tenure as city manager.
Hamilton also served as an assistant city manager for five years. He started his career in local government with the McLean County Regional Planning Commission.
Meanwhile the meeting will be the first for incoming City Manager David Hales.
Hales most recently served as finance director at West Jordan, Utah. He also served as city manager at Bend, Ore. and Kannapolis, N.C.
"Monday is going to be a pretty full day for David," said Mayor Steve Stockton. "I plan on giving him a chance to get a little settled before meeting with him on Tuesday."
Under the terms of his contract with the council, moving expenses for Hales up to $18,000 will be covered by the city. The bill voted on by the City Council will pay for $1,615 in house-hunting expenses and $14,477 to hire Normal-based Hutchcraft Van Service.
If Hales resigns from the city within one year, he is expected to repay the city for his moving expenses, according to the contract.
In other action scheduled for Monday, the council will consider an agreement with AmerenIP to use the power company's utility poles in downtown to mount wireless network equipment and surveillance cameras for the police department.
The city has been considering installing cameras in downtown for several years. If the agreement with AmerenIP is approved, the city can begin a pilot program to test a variety of cameras, according to the proposal.
