NORMAL - An 18-year-old man was arrested after driving 114 mph in a 35 mph zone and fleeing from an officer Tuesday night in northeast Normal, police said.
An officer heading north on Airport Road about 9:40 p.m. saw a Ford Mustang coming at him at a high rate of speed and clocked it on radar as traveling 114 mph, said Normal Lt. Eric Klingele. The officer had been heading toward Shepard Road to check a report of vehicles squealing their tires, he said.
The officer turned on his emergency lights and turned to follow the Mustang, which ran a stop sign at Fort Jesse Road and pulled into a nearby subdivision, Klingele said.
Police found the car parked and unattended on a side street and tracked down the owner of the car through the license plate, Klingele said.
Glen Egebrecht of Towanda was arrested and given "many tickets," Klingele said.
