PONTIAC - A gas station drive-off this week led to a police chase, car crash and the arrest of an Ottawa teen wanted for several robberies.

Chance N. Weed, 19, is in custody at Livingston County Jail in lieu of $50,000. He was charged with robbery and aggravated fleeing, both felonies, and misdemeanor counts of driving while under the influence of drugs, criminal trespass of a motor vehicle and driving with a revoked license.

At 6:22 p.m. Monday, Dwight police were called to the Amoco Station, 10 E. Northbrook Drive, after Weed reportedly drove off without paying for $30 in gas.

The car, which Weed was driving, was spotted on southbound Interstate 55; it exited at Pontiac and then immediately re-entered the interstate heading northbound, according to police. Weed then gave chase in excess of 100 mph to Pontiac police, Livingston County Sheriff's police and Illinois State Police.

The chase ended a short time later, at mile marker 217 near Dwight. There Weed lost control of his car and crashed head-on into a Dwight police car on Illinois 17. The crash flipped Weed's car onto its hood, according to Assistant State's Attorney Kevin Sanborn.

The two officers inside the squad car were transported to OSF St. James-John W. Albrecht Memorial Medical Center, where they were treated and released. Weed was also treated and released.

Both vehicles were totaled; Weed's car, a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am, was reported stolen in Mendota, police said.

An investigation will be done by Illinois State Police.

Sanborn said Weed admitted to using heroin that day and also admitted to the recent robbery of Pontiac's Super 8 Motel, 601 S. Deerfield Road. There, about $200 was taken. Weed is also a suspect in motel robberies in Morris and Ottawa, according to police.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 28 Livingston County Circuit Court.
