BLOOMINGTON - A jury returned not guilty verdicts after about an hour of deliberations Thursday in the sexual assault trial of a 20-year-old McLean man accused of molesting a minor girl.

Jonathon Ramey was acquitted of three counts of criminal sexual assault after a two-day trial.

In testimony Thursday, Ramey denied sexually assaulting the girl who was in her early teens at the time of the alleged abuse.

Ramey's brother, Michael, 18, and his father, Lawrence, 47, also face charges in connection with alleged sexual abuse of the girl, who is under 18 years old. The alleged victim was acquainted with the Rameys.

In closing remarks, defense lawyer Stephanie Wong told the jury of seven women and five men that the case against Jonathan Ramey was the result of an incomplete investigation by police and prosecutors.

"This is an abomination," Wong said of the criminal case against Ramey.

Wong was critical of detectives who did not search through computer records containing conversations initiated by the victim with Ramey two years after the alleged abuse.

Wong also questioned the lack of specific details the alleged victim offered to authorities, including what she was wearing and when the incidents occurred.

The allegations were reported to police in November 2007.

Prosecutor Suzanne Geller argued the teenage girl wanted to push the memory of the alleged assaults out of her mind. Evidence in a sexual assault case does not routinely include computer records, said Geller.

Pretrial rulings prohibited the attorneys from mentioning the pending charges against Michael and Lawrence Ramey.

Michael Ramey is scheduled in court Dec. 3 for a status hearing, and his father is due in court Dec. 12.
