BLOOMINGTON - The Salvation Army of McLean County's emergency disaster services vehicle is in Iowa City, Iowa, where volunteers are using the mobile canteen to serve meals to anyone displaced by flooding and to relief workers.
Volunteers working out of the mobile canteen are not from McLean County, said Andrea Raycraft, Salvation Army's development director. But Capt. Scott Shelbourn, The Salvation Army commanding officer, and local volunteers are expected to be deployed next week to assist with post-flooding cleanup and recovery efforts, Raycraft said Tuesday.
Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services' teams are helping with flood relief efforts in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan.
Meanwhile, American Red Cross of the Heartland, based in Bloomington, still has one volunteer doing disaster assessment in Cedar Falls, Iowa; three volunteers doing casework in Indianapolis; and one staff member working as a transportation supervisor in Madison, Wis., Red Cross spokesman Scott Vogel said.
People wishing to donate money to assist Salvation Army efforts may send a check, earmarked "Disaster Relief," to the Salvation Army Bloomington Corps Community Center or may make a donation at www.salvationarmyusa.org or by calling (800) SAL-ARMY.
People wishing to support Red Cross efforts may send contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund to the Red Cross chapter house in Bloomington, or by calling (800) HELP-NOW or visiting www.redcross.org. Donors may designate that their donation is for flood relief.
