Daily Digest for October 23, 2007:

Open house planned for Main Street draft

BLOOMINGTON - Residents, business owners and other community members will have a chance to see the final draft plan for redevelopment of the Main Street Corridor at an open house Monday.

Chicago architect Doug Farr, who was hired to create the plan, will present an overview at 7 p.m. at the Hansen Center, Illinois Wesleyan University.

The draft was developed after suggestions from the community. Bloomington and Normal city council members gave it conceptual approval following an Oct. 17 work session.

The councils also supported extending a building moratorium along the 7-mile corridor a few months while interim guidelines are developed. Farr is recommending form base zoning, which regulates building forms and styles in addition to usage, for the area. That will take up to 18 months to develop.

World War II stories planned for Vets' Day

BLOOMINGTON - Central Illinois World War II stories will be part of the Veterans' Day ceremony that begins at 10:45 a.m. Nov. 11 at McLean County Museum of History, 200 N. Main St.

The free event is co-sponsored by American Legion Louis E. Davis Post 56; WILL TV; and McLean County Museum of History.
