PONTIAC - Floodstock, a concert involving five bands and an auction, will raise money Sunday for the hundreds of victims of last month's Vermilion River flooding in Pontiac.

Proceeds from the event will be split between American Red Cross of the Heartland and a local flood relief fund started by Louis Lyons.

Event coordinator Jerry McKinley said the idea for the event came from a desire to help the victims still trying to recover from the flood that hit the week of Jan. 7. Hundreds of homes and businesses had water in them.

"I actually manage one of the bands, and we were just sitting around one night and thinking it would be kind of a cool thing to help out the people who slipped through the cracks." McKinley said. "We just thought it would be a good way to bring the community together and acknowledge those who may not have been insured or just from a lack of knowledge."

Bands planning to perform are rock bands Serenity, Cartoon Physics and Slicklyne, blues and rock band Roundhouse and country band Buck Fever.

The bands are from the Livingston County area and Bloomington. McKinley said he manages Pontiac-based Serenity, and its members and their families were directly affected by the flooding.

There also will be raffles, door prizes and a silent auction, McKinley said. The 50 or so items to be auctioned off, raffled off or given away range from hats and gift certificates to electronics, furniture and even a lawnmower.

"Everybody has been with it 100 percent," McKinley said about the 50 or so businesses that have donated items. "They have been all for it, and we have not had one person that we have approached that didn't offer to either give or do something."
