How Time Flies for Sept. 6, 2008:
100 years ago
Sept. 6, 1908: Locust Street west from the railroad bridge is "a veritable bump the bumps." New sewer lines have just been installed to almost every house. The result is a ridge about two feet high where the connecting ditches have been filled in.
75 years ago
Sept. 6, 1933: Normal watchmaker R.C. Hill is missing. Upon his return from a Niagara Falls vacation he entered his rooming house at 305 North Mason. He left five minutes later. That was three weeks ago. No one reported Mr. Hill gone till now, thinking he'd soon be back.
50 years ago
Sept. 6, 1958: The safe burgled from Ozark Airlines at Bloomington August 13 has been recovered. It was found in two feet of water under a Route 66 bridge at Lawndale. The safe had been blown open and the combination damaged.
25 years ago
Sept. 6, 1983: Yesterday was Labor Day with all its parades and picnics. The theme this year is "50 Years of Social Justice," with unions seeking to regain their effectiveness.
