BLOOMINGTON - For the second year in a row, Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department is giving families a chance to have fun and get active with a variety of free events.
Family Fitness Day 2009 will be 1 to 4 p.m. May 16 at White Oak Park. Participants should enter the park off Cottage Avenue. In case of rain, the event will be May 17.
"We have a lot of new groups, twice as many as last year," said Denise Balagna, the department's athletic program manager.
McLean County Cougars Football, OSF Center for Healthy Lifestyles, Pepsi Ice Center, The Workout Company, Vitesse Cycle, Gold's Gym, Naturally Yours, Often Running, Smoothie King and Upper Limits will have booths.
Activities include a lake run/walk; a soccer shootout; bump, serve, set, spike volleyball; a baseball hit and run; Frisbee target toss; basketball triple threat; track dash; McLean County Cougars football; soccer skillastics; and half-pint skillastics.
The Workout Company will have demonstrations at 2, 2:30 and 3 p.m.
Participants have a chance to win prizes by picking up an activity card at the information table and getting it initialed at each activity station.
Last year's event drew more than 400 people.
