BLOOMINGTON - Traffic was back to normal on South Center Street after a two-car crash involving a McLean County sheriff's department squad car Wednesday morning, Bloomington police said.

The two-car crash happened around 7:45 a.m. near Center and Wood streets. One of the vehicles involved was a McLean County sheriff's department squad car driven by an on-duty deputy, Bloomington police said.

Preliminary reports indicate a male driver failed to stop at a red light at that intersection and collided with the sheriff's deputy's car, police said. The crash is under investigation and citations are pending, police said.

The deputy was taken to BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, and his injuries weren't considered serious, said McLean County Chief Deputy Rusty Thomas.

The deputy was alone in the squad car, Thomas said.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, police said.

The crash had blocked off southbound Center Street traffic at Elm Street, as well as Wood between Center and Main.

But the scene was cleared and traffic was moving normally again by around 8:45 a.m., police said.
