BLOOMINGTON - Three Highland Park men convicted of beating an Illinois State University lacrosse team member last September will be allowed to serve their jail time close to home, according to a ruling Thursday by Judge Charles Reynard.

Casey Lomoro, 21, Corey Lomoro, 25 and Matthew Walker, 24, pleaded guilty in April to the aggravated battery of Joseph Pelizza. The three men, who also were ISU students, attacked Pelizza as he stood with another man in a parking lot on East Locust Street in Normal.

Reynard sentenced the Lomoro brothers each to 12 weekends in jail and Walker to 16 weekends as part of a 180-day jail term. The remaining jail time was stayed pending the outcome of a 30-month probation term.

Defense attorney Mark Sutter asked that the three defendants be allowed to serve their jail terms in the Lake County jail. He also suggested at a July 9 sentencing hearing that Reynard consider home confinement with electronic monitoring, a request Reynard said he was not inclined to grant.

Sutter said in court Thursday that the Lake County Sheriff's Department has agreed to incarcerate the Lomoros and Walker for the specified number of weekends.

In addition to the jail time, the three also must reimburse a state victim's assistance fund about $4,000 for medical bills and each must complete 100 hours community service. Recommended drug and alcohol treatment also must be completed.

A Nov. 24 remission hearing is set to determine the progress the men are making on their probation terms.

Still pending is a civil lawsuit filed by the victim against the three Highland Park men and owners of Mulligan's, a Bloomington bar where the three allegedly drank before the incident.
