LINCOLN - A 59-year-old Pekin man remained hospitalized early Thursday after his truck overturned on an exit ramp off Interstate 55 near Lincoln on Wednesday, authorities said.
Ronald J. Lee was exiting northbound I-55 at mile marker 126 just after 10 a.m. when the truck overturned, slid about 75 feet and trapped him inside, Illinois State Police said in a statement. Lee had to be extricated by emergency personnel, state police said.
He was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, and a nursing supervisor said Thursday he was listed in fair condition. Police had said the injuries were non-life-threatening.
Lee was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said. He was hauling a trailer for Curry Coal and Ice, a transportation company that serves Central Illinois and nearby states with terminal locations in Springfield, Peoria, Carlinville and Illiopolis, according to a company Web site.
Illinois State Police, Logan County sheriff's department and Logan County Paramedics responded to the crash.
