100 years ago
Sept. 10, 1908: The Howard-Kirkpatrick House Furnishing Company celebrated 25 years in business with open house until 10 p.m. last night. Ashton's orchestra played and factory reps gave demonstrations as part of the fare. (The store was at 502-610 North Main Street.)
75 years ago
Sept. 10, 1933: American State Bank reopened to 1000 customers yesterday. It had been closed since March. The bank lobby was decorated for the occasion with floral arrangements and messages of congratulations.
50 years ago
Sept. 10, 1958: Wrecking crews are demolishing the old house at 105 East Mulberry Street to allow for expansion of Golden Rule Appliance Company. The house, estimated to be 75 to 100 years old, is owned by Dr. C.A. and L.E. Wollrab.
25 years ago
Sept. 10, 1983: Starting in 1984 Illinois drivers' licenses will cost two dollars more to renew but will be good for four years instead of the present three. Secretary of State Jim Edgar says the four year license will be more efficient for his office to administer.
