NORMAL - Three golf pro shops were approached by apparently the same man trying to get money for merchandise for which he had no receipt. In two cases, he simply left without the merchandise when told he could not get any money back.

At the ISU Golf Course Pro Shop, a man got a $131.27 receipt on his credit card when told he could not get cash. He said the two hats, an article of clothing and shoes all belonged to his dead father, an ISU police report said. He had no receipt. The employee had been busy with other customers when the man came in.

After the man left, the ISU store got a call from Ironwood Golf Course, 1901 Towanda Ave., about a man wanting a refund for golf shoes. He had no receipt and said his wife would bring it. He left the golf shoes behind.

At Lakeside Country Club, 1201 Croxton Ave., a man tried to get a refund for golf shoes at the pro shop and left the shoes when a refund was denied.

It was not clear if he actually brought anything into the pro shops or came in empty-handed. All of the incidents were June 30, said an ISU police report on file Monday.
