BELLFLOWER - Like most teenage boys his age, Brandon Miller loves music and dreamed of playing his favorite music on a loud car stereo.

Thanks to a group of volunteers, Miller recently got his wish.

Miller, of Bellflower, may be a typical 18-year-old in most ways, but in other ways, he is very different.

Last summer, he was diagnosed with lymphoma. Instead of spending the last year with his friends at Blue Ridge High School, he has spent time in the hospital and has undergone chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Miller's treatments isolated him during the winter months, so he had a visit from representatives from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which fulfills the dreams of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Miller told them about his dream of a car stereo for his 1991 Mazda 626.

They worked with the Circuit City store in Champaign, and the store and its employees donated materials and over 300 hours of labor to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois grant Miller's wish.

"When Brandon first came in, he told us he wanted the world's loudest car stereo," said Circuit City employee Mike Reid. Reid says Miller's car stereo might not be the world's loudest, but it "hurts when you sit in the car and listen to it."

For Reid and four other Circuit City employees, Miller's wish was not the typical car stereo installation. They did their usual car stereo installations during the day, and then on their own time, stayed late into the night customizing Miller's system.

Scott even drove out-of-state one night to pick up a special subwoofer.

Despite the challenges, Scott said the project was "fun for me and for all of the guys who helped. We wouldn't have rather done it for anyone else."

For Miller, dreaming about his car stereo gave him something to look forward to. His mother Becky says that all he has done since receiving his wish-filled car is "drive around and show his friends."

The wish, she said, has helped turn him back into the typical teenager he once was.
