GRADUATE

Western Illinois

STREATOR - Matthew A. Tombaugh of rural Streator graduated in May from Western Illinois University in Macomb with a master of science degree in college student personnel.

He was an assistant complex director at International House and Higgins Hall.

Matthew A. Tombaugh

Tombaugh previously received a B.S. degree in international resource and consumer economics from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, in May 2002. He then spent three years in Japan, working for the Japan Exchange Teaching program as an assistant language teacher.

Tombaugh will begin in August as a resident director at Western Washington University, Bellingham.

He is the son of Larry and Kathy Tombaugh of Streator and the grandson of Faye Tombaugh, Streator, and Marian Allen, Mason City.

Radiography

BLOOMINGTON - Eleven Central Illinois residents graduated June 20 from the Bloomington-Normal School of Radiography.

They are:

Clinton - Michael Dunham

Eureka - Kristen Mooberry

Fairbury - Jessica Huling; Erin N. Studebaker

Forrest - Calvin Teubel

Gibson City - Taunya Buhs

Lincoln - Beth Boch

Tremont - Lisa Wagenbach

Wenona - Patricia Destri

Dunham received the Outstanding Student Award. Teubel received the Best Patient Care award. Mooberry was named the Most Improved Student.

Univ. of Arizona

NORMAL - Megan and Molly Stiarwalt, twin daughters of Randy and Sandy Stiarwalt of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Normal, have graduated from the University of Arizona in Tucson.

Megan received a bachelor of arts degree in political science, magna cum laude, with a minor in Spanish. She will attend Loyola Law School in Chicago in the fall.

Molly graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in education with a focus on elementary education.

They are the granddaughters of Myra Komnick of Bloomington and Gene and Bonnie Stiarwalt of Tucson, formerly of Bloomington.

Kendall College

BLOOMINGTON - Jennifer L. Fitzgerald received her bachelor of arts degree in culinary arts from Kendall College in Chicago on June 21.

She is the daughter of Mike Fitzgerald of Normal and Kim Fitzgerald of Hudson.

Scholarships

Kohl's

BLOOMINGTON - Area winners of the 2008 Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship Program are Jennifer Morrow of Bloomington and Emily Behrens of Mahomet.

Arts camp

BLOOMINGTON - Peter A. Garrett, son of Roger and Sara Garrett of Bloomington, has been named one of 52 Emerson Scholars and will receive a full scholarship to attend Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan, a summer arts program for aspiring young musicians.

Garrett will study cello. He is a senior at University High School in Normal. Garrett received the Fine Arts Award for cello from Interlochen Arts Camp last summer, won third place in the Illinois Cello Competition and was principal cellist for the 2008 IMEA All-State Orchestra.

Mid Central

BLOOMINGTON - Mid Central Community Action Inc. has named winners of scholarship awards to nontraditional, low-income students.

They are Jennifer Biddle, Kristin Fink, Tabitha Harding, Leslie Johnson, Gabriel Powell, YaRoni Prather, Lamika Terrell and Jo Anne Zavala.

Each will receive $750. The scholarships are funded through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

General Assembly

PONTIAC - State Sen. Dan Rutherford, a Pontiac Republican, has announced winners of the Illinois General Assembly Scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year.

The one-year scholarships are for students attending the University of Illinois or any other state-supported, four-year university in Illinois.

The winners attending the University of Illinois are Neal Benjamin of Ellsworth, Joelle Curry of Pontiac, Brent Kerby of Washington and Austin Martin of Flanagan. Those attending Illinois State University are Colleen Burger of Odell, Marissa Witzig of Gridley and Kristen Wyman of Loda. Winner Lucas Pulley of Gibson City attends Southern Illinois University.
