BLOOMINGTON - State Rep. Dan Brady said he hasn't decided whether to run for a U.S. congressional seat in 2008.
"We're continuing to explore. I think I owe that to the people that suggested this," said the Bloomington Republican. "It's very flattering, but the fact of the matter remains that there's a lot of decisions, personal and otherwise, that need to be done."
Brady would have to file as a candidate between Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 if he wants to run in the Feb. 5 GOP primary for the congressional seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Jerry Weller.
Weller, a Republican from Morris who faces questions about Central American real estate dealings, announced last week he is not running for re-election.
Brady, who was questioned about a run during a press conference on a bill he co-sponsored, said there are several factors to consider. Those include who else would run and whether there would be money from the Republican National Committee.
He also said he would have to consider where he could win votes. Bloomington-Normal is on the fringe of the district that covers LaSalle, Grundy and Kankakee counties, and parts of Will, McLean, Livingston, Woodford and Bureau counties.
