NORMAL - Anthony Cozzi got an unforgettable birthday present Monday. His son, Benton Anthony Cozzi, was born at 1:22 p.m at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, making him the the Pantagraph circulation area's first baby of the new year.

He weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces and shares his father's birthday. Baby, mother and father were all resting comfortably at the hospital Monday afternoon.

"We're not sure yet when we get to leave, but (the baby) is very healthy," said Cozzi, 27.

While mother Alissa VanDenBossche, 25, thinks her son could grow up to be president, Cozzi said he'll be happy with whatever his son does.

Cozzi is a self-employed Web development consultant. VanDenBossche works in accounting at Harrah's Casino in Joliet.

The couple live in Frankfort, near Joliet, but decided to have the baby at BroMenn because VanDenBossche has family in Bloomington-Normal.

Her parents are Paula and John VanDenBossche of Bloomington.

"We're excited, very proud and happy," said John VanDenBossche.

His daughter was in labor about six hours for this, her first child.

"At the time it seemed difficult," she said as she held her newborn.

VanDenBossche, who attended University High School and graduated from Millikin University in 2003 with an English degree, expects to return to work in six weeks.

Cozzi said his parents, who are retired and live in Frankfort, would help care for the baby when VanDenBossche returns to work.

"This is the best birthday present ever," Cozzi said.
