100 years ago
May 14, 1908: Transition has begun from the old YMCA building to the new one at East and Washington Streets. The old "Y" was at 428-430 North Main, and will see its last use in about nine days. It will close with a formal farewell religious service set for May 31.
75 years ago
May 14, 1933: Today is Mother's Day. At tonight's dance at the Edgewood Ballroom in Funks Grove there will be roses for the ladies. Also tonight at the dance at Sunny Slope, mothers will be admitted free when accompanied by a son or daughter.
50 years ago
May 14, 1958: The Chapel of Trees in Funks Grove will resume worship for the season this Sunday. It's an outdoor church with logs for pews. Dr. Loyal M. Thompson, a retired Methodist minister, founded the Chapel of Trees three years ago.
25 years ago
May 14, 1983: A small plane crash south of Bloomington claimed the life of a 72-year old Rochelle man. The victim, Ralph Quest, was affiliated with a Rochelle church and was an associate of evangelist Oral Roberts.
