UPDATED 9 a.m. BLOOMINGTON - An 18-year-old Bloomington man was arrested late Monday after allegedly stabbing a taxicab company owner who tried to intervene in a domestic dispute.
The 18-year-old was being held at the McLean County jail Tuesday morning on preliminary charges of aggravated battery with a weapon and domestic battery. He may appear in court later Tuesday.
The 18-year-old reportedly followed a woman into Beyer Twin City Cab, 1001 W. Washington St., during an argument before 5:20 p.m., said police spokesman Duane Moss. The man reportedly physically assaulted the woman, and cab company owner Andrew Beyer told him to stop, he said.
Moss said Beyer followed the two outside, where the man reportedly shoved Beyer, who shoved back. The man allegedly pulled a knife and caused a small puncture wound to the upper part of his stomach.
Beyer was transported to BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, with non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.
A message left at his business was not returned.
Police found the 18-year-old at the woman's Jefferson Street residence later Monday night.
