BLOOMINGTON - A 16-year-old Bloomington boy remained hospitalized Thursday after reportedly being shot in the stomach.
Staff at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center notified police around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday after Dewayne Farris arrived at the hospital, said police spokesman Duane Moss.
Farris initially told police he was shot by someone in a moving car on the city's near west side, Moss said. Police were unable to get more information from Farris and continued to investigate Thursday, he said.
He was listed in good condition Thursday, a hospital spokeswoman said. Police reports say he had a small entry wound just below the belly button.
A woman who identified herself as Farris' mother, Lydia Poindexter, told The Pantagraph that her son was in a lot of pain and was partly sedated Thursday.
It was unclear whether he would need surgery to remove the bullet, she said, adding that the family planned to follow up with police sometime Friday.
