BLOOMINGTON - A former residential counselor accused of sexually abusing a teenage girl at Chestnut Health Systems was sentenced Monday to 30 months probation and ordered to complete sex offender treatment.
Sara F. Thompson, 27, of Chicago, pleaded guilty in February to one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a girl between late November and early December 2007. Thompson worked as a part-time employee for about two months before the incident.
According to Chestnut officials, Thompson was fired following the alleged inappropriate contact, which took place during a "movie night" at the facility.
McLean County Circuit Judge Charles Reynard agreed to allow Thompson to serve her probation term in Cook County, where she has moved. The importance of recommended treatment was emphasized by the judge.
"I expect the defendant to get involved in sex offender treatment - that means immediately," said Reynard.
A 180-day jail term was stayed pending an Aug. 7 remission hearing.
A second count of abuse was dismissed as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.
