SPRINGFIELD - Illinoisans can now use some credit cards to pay for their driver's license costs at state facilities.

Before, most secretary of state facilities wouldn't take credit cards. But the office announced Wednesday it would start accepting MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards.

Visa cardholders are out of luck.

"Customer service continues to be one of my top priorities," Secretary of State Jesse White said in a statement.

But using a card won't come without a cost. The state won't absorb credit card fees typically charged for transactions.

So a driver paying $78 for their regular renewal, for example, would be charged $79.64 because of the added fees.
