SPRINGFIELD - President Bush's visit to Peoria Friday likely will be a relatively brief one, including a private lunch-time fundraiser and no scheduled public events.

Bush plans to attend a $500-a-head lunch for Republican state Rep. Aaron Schock of Peoria. Schock is running against Democrat Colleen Callahan of Kickapoo to succeed retiring U.S. Rep. Ray LaHood in Illinois' 18th Congressional District.

A Bush spokesman said no other public events have been announced, but the president plans to honor Peorian Roy Storey for his volunteer work for schools. Country singer Lee Greenwood also will attend the fundraiser.

Virginia Weaver, whose family is hosting the event, said she is excited about hosting the president. She didn't say how the farm was selected.

"We're just lucky, I guess," Weaver said. "Very lucky."

Friday will be Bush's second trip to central Illinois in two years. Early last year, he delivered a speech on the economy at an East Peoria Caterpillar Inc. plant.

This year's trip comes as an election looms and Bush is dealing with low approval ratings across the country.

With that in mind, Callahan last week criticized Schock for getting Bush's support, saying it meant her opponent was aligning himself with the president's policies.
