LINCOLN - Lincoln Police Chief Stuart Erlenbush said he has hopes that someone who knows something about a hit-and-run accident that left a Lincoln woman in critical condition in a Springfield hospital will come forward with some information.

Last Tuesday at 12:36 a.m., the woman whose name has not yet been released, was walking southbound on North Kickapoo Street between the Eagles Lodge and Puritan Springs Bottled Water.

A vehicle struck the woman causing life-threatening injuries. She was found lying on the ground at the north entrance to the Eagles Lodge, west of North Kickapoo. The vehicle left the scene.

She was transported to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital and then air-lifted to the Springfield hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

"We have not had much in the way of leads to follow up on," he said. "It's frustrating. Someone out there knows something. We're gone to the public, and we feel like we need to keep this in the public eye because sometimes these things take time."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lincoln Police Department at (217) 732-2151.

Erlenbush said citizens should report any recent damage to the front or rear of any vehicle that may have occurred last Tuesday morning.

"The victim hasn't been able to communicate and so we have to rely on someone out there that knows something," he said. "We're not about to give up on this."
