CHENOA — An Arrowsmith couple died following a two-vehicle accident near Chenoa at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday.

Pronounced dead at the scene were Eldon Kaeb, 52, and his wife, Stephanie Kaeb, 45, said McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling. The couple farmed and had nine children, Kimmerling said in a press release.

“Preliminary information indicates that they had recently departed a family gathering and were heading to Wisconsin when the incident occurred,” she said.

Kimmerling said the accident involved an automobile and a semi tractor-trailer near the intersection of 3360 East and Illinois 24 in Yates Township just west of Weston. Kimmerling said the Kaeb vehicle was traveling northbound on 3360 East when it collided with the westbound semi. Rescue personnel found the couple trapped in the automobile and they were pronounced dead at the scene at 11:31 p.m. Autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday.

The driver of the truck was not injured, Kimmerling said.

The Chenoa Police Department, Colfax Police Department, Illinois State Police, Chenoa and Fairbury Fire Departments all assisted at the scene.

So sorry to hear about this accident. My sincere condolences to the Kaeb family. Merlin Kaeb used to be my neighbor and nicer people you would never meet. I now live in Texas, but always think of them often. God bless all the children. Lori and Dee Dee

Although I have never met Eldon, Stephanie & most likely any of their children - my heart has been breaking over this news all day. I cant even begin to imagine how devistated you kids are. I hope you can feel all the prayers and love being sent on your behalf. May God heal your hurting hearts in His perfect timing and may you always remember only the best of memories.
