GRIDLEY - Police say a 33-year-old Bloomington man was Tasered after he allegedly followed a woman around in his pickup truck Sunday and rammed her vehicle three times.

Pedro Sotelo-Ascencio was charged Monday with two counts of aggravated DUI with no valid driver's license (Class 4 felony), one count of aggravated battery (Class 3 felony) and one count of resisting a peace officer (Class A misdemeanor), records show.

He was also cited for alleged reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, driving while never being issued a license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and illegal transportation of alcohol.

Officers were called to Gridley after a woman said Sotelo-Ascencio had followed her in his 1999 Chevrolet Silverado truck as she drove around 4:20 a.m. Sunday, said Chenoa Police Chief Ted Lyons.

The woman, who did not know Sotelo-Ascencio, was at least followed from the Phillips 66 at 212 W. Gridley Road to the BP gas station at 101 W. Gridley Road, in Gridley, Lyons said.

When she stopped at the BP station, Sotelo-Ascencio allegedly rammed her vehicle at least three times, Lyons said. As this happened, the woman called authorities and gave a vehicle description and a license plate, Lyons said.

Sotelo-Ascencio and the woman then got out of their vehicles, when Sotelo-Ascencio allegedly hit a cell phone out of the woman's hand, Lyons said. She was not injured.

"She's fine other than being a little shaken up," he said.

Chenoa police were able to find Sotelo-Ascencio shortly after the incident. Sotelo-Ascencio was allegedly intoxicated and resistant to arrest, which led to him being Tasered, Lyons said.

He said a language barrier has prevented police from fully investigating a motive. The two people involved are said to not know each other.
