BLOOMINGTON -- A 51-year-old Bloomington woman died early Tuesday after her car hit a utility pole and rolled over just before midnight on Hannah Street, Bloomington police said.
Janice Pankey of the 100 block of North Morris Avenue was pronounced dead at 12:08 a.m. Tuesday at the scene, McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling said. Autopsy results indicated she died from severe head injuries, Kimmerling said.
The accident occurred on Hannah Street, between Croxton Avenue and Bell Street, police said.
Pankey was not wearing a seat belt, and the odor of alcohol was detected in the car, which was on its roof, police said. Toxicology tests which would determine whether alcohol played a role were ordered as part of the autopsy.
It is believed Pankey was en route to her residence when the crash occurred, Kimmerling said.
