NEWS IN BRIEF
Tree plantings to honor soldiers
MARSEILLES — A Streator man has organized the planting of 250 oak trees at Illini State Park, which will honor fallen Illinois soldiers from the Iraq and Afghan wars.
Steve Massey, 57, said he was inspired by his Italian immigrant grandparents “who always said you have to give something back to this country that has given us so much.”
The trees, a seven-ton boulder and plaque are located on two acres near the Illinois River lock and dam at the Marseilles park.
